What is a Radiator Fan used for?

A radiator fan assists in supporting the engine temperature by pulling (or pushing) air through the core of the car's radiator. When driving along, the forward motion forces air through your vehicle's front grill and the radiator, which is sufficient to maintain the engine temperature. If you're stationary in traffic with heavy load stresses, the radiator fan's extra airflow stops the engine from overheating. 

Depending on the type of radiator fan installed depends on how it’s powered. Some are powered by the water pump pulley, which, in turn, is powered by the crankshaft via an auxiliary belt. Other fans are powered by an electric radiator fan motor.

If you notice the radiator fan isn't working, it could cause severe damage to your engine. Radiator fan common problems include a broken wire, faulty relay, or a blown fuse.
