What are Indicators on a Car?

Indicators flash on and off continuously when you activate them. They are found on the front, rear and sometimes at the front side panel of the car on both the left and right-hand sides.

Indicators have two main functions. The first one, when activated, lets other road users know if you're making a turn and in which direction. Before you turn, you'll activate either the left-side or right-side indicator, displaying to other road users your intentions. They also allow you to signal to other road users when switching lanes on a motorway.

The second function is when you press the warning light button on the car's dashboard, activating the hazard lights This button is marked with a red triangle, making all the indicators flash together. This alerts other motorists of dangers ahead. They even allow other road users to see you when you've broken down on the side of the motorway, for example. It's imperative that you must have fully functioning indicator bulbs.

Changing indicator bulbs is relatively easy and quick; usually, finding all the information on how to do this is in the owner's manual.
